Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Workplace Policies Vital for Staff and Business Growth

Creating a functioning and cooperative workplace isn’t a natural process. It is unrealistic to expect to hire people and have them work together as a cohesive team, aligning with one another, as this is an unrealistic expectation.

Instead, every business owner needs to guide with a firm yet respectful hand. Ensuring that your employees can work together in a way that’s both productive for your business and constructive for them as people requires a careful balance and considerable input.

Remember, it’s not just your employees that will fare better. As a result, business will as well. Targets will be manageable with greater precision and in a more streamlined manner, surpassing expectations. Accordingly, you will properly prepare to build the kind of workplace culture that will thrive.

But how can the average business owner build something like this? Creating reasonable workplace policies from the outset provides the opportunity for ongoing review by all and enforcement when someone fails to follow the rules. With everything in mind, our collaborative blog offers insights into ‘Workplace policies vital for staff and business growth.’

Equal Opportunities

An equal opportunities policy can help to prevent discrimination during the hiring process and within the workplace.

Operating one can ensure the best person for the job always gets it, no matter who they are or what adjustments they need. Go through the EEOC’s laws to ensure you know the basics of this.

Anti-Harassment

Workplace harassment can be rife. It’s not something to take Workplace harassment can be rife. It’s not something to take lightly, as you want your business to be a fair, enjoyable place to work. However, harassment can often be invasive and complex to identify, as it involves behaviors like gossiping, making ‘jokes’ at someone’s expense, and providing constant unfair criticism. Additionally, it can be hard to ‘prove’ when you’re at work. As the boss, you’re not always going to have your eye on the way your team interacts with one another.

Have the HR department handle these issues to ensure the necessary legalities are in place. Also, ensure you utilize their expertise to develop an anti-harassment policy that encompasses all relevant aspects. HR is there to ensure the workplace remains fair for everyone within it, and every business that operates with an HR team is a much safer place to be. It will also take the pressure off you by keeping you from having to be both the approachable boss and the objective grievance mediator.

Device Usage

We take our phones everywhere with us, including to work. Assuming each employee brings their phone to work, consider potential rules governing its usage.

For example, if someone uses Wi-Fi to access websites that are otherwise not suitable for work NSFW, their history of doing so will appear on your ISP’s records. That’s not quite the professional look, and it could also be exposing your network to malicious attacks.

Next, consider device usage outside the workplace, such as when someone works from home or away from the office with a client. If an employee uses their device while it’s connected to a public Wi-Fi, your company data could be at risk.

Since this data often includes client details as well, you may also be at risk of losing sensitive information that you promised to safeguard. Incorporating a rule concerning data access offsite will help to keep incidents like this to an absolute minimum.

Equal Opportunities

An equal opportunities policy can help to prevent discrimination during the hiring process and within the workplace. It can ensure that the best person for the job is selected, regardless of who they are or what adjustments they may need. Review the EEOC’s laws to ensure you understand the basics for proper implementation.

Cybersecurity Practices

We live in a tech-based world, and there’s a lot that can go wrong when you don’t protect your digital assets, presence, and activities. That’s something to encourage in both your employees and yourself. Follow best practices to create a culture of security around your network. It will help ensure you have a clear cybersecurity and/or data protection policy in place that’s clear enough for everyone to follow.

At the very least, ensure that passwords aren’t easily guessable and keep them private among employees. Follow all best practices for creating a strong password. Additionally, consider incorporating guidelines into your policy that help employees recognize and avoid phishing links or insecure connections when accessing the internet for work purposes.

Attendance and Absence

When your employees know precisely what they need to do to request time off, as well as the procedure they must follow when calling in sick or reporting an emergency, absenteeism becomes far less of an issue.

Set out the policy guidelines by going through a few questions. To start with, will you grant paid time off? And if so, how much will employees be entitled to per year? Also, consider adding additional PTO for each subsequent year an employee remains employed.

Secondly, if an employee needs to take time off without any forewarning, will they need to provide evidence? Remember, this can be a legal grey area, and you may not be entitled to know exactly why an employee cannot show up to work. Outline the specific rules and regulations clearly in the contract that your employees sign before they begin working for you.

Conclusion: Workplace Policies Vital for Staff and Business Growth

When you have the right policies in place within your working environment and staff is on board with them, you will achieve more than previously possible. Now, you can focus on your talent, goals, and collaborators to ensure better teamwork and improved output.

Ensure your workplace benefits from the suggested policies above. Lastly, keep both your staff and your business safe while on the job and make it easy to minimize disputes with respectful conversations. Due diligence regarding all the above enhances the workplace policies vital for staff and business growth.
