Major League Baseball Faces Republican Wrath

William S. Bike -- Historical Commentator

William S. Bike, historian, media consultant, and author of the book The Forgotten 1970 Chicago Cubs: Go and Glow, a history of the Chicago Cubs' 1970 season, published an article at https://billbike.medium.com/major-league-baseball-faces-republican-wrath-8fc0421dfdd6, "Major League Baseball Faces Republican Wrath," about MLB's Anti-Trust exemption for the online publication Medium. After Major League Baseball pulled its All-Star game from Atlanta, Georgia, because the state passed restrictions on voting, Republican Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, and Mike Lee drafted legislation to end MLB's anti-trust exemption. In the article, Bike details the history of MLB's anti-trust exemption, and discusses Major League outfielder Curt Flood's 1970 challenge to it.

Is Your Company at Risk for Being Unionized?

Timothy A. Dimoff -- High Risk Security Expert

As the office environment starts to come back to life, it's essential to use caution about allowing employees or outsiders to sell crafts and goodies there. Businesses have permitted annual craft fairs, bake sales, or product vending by employees, families, or the public as a goodwill gesture. If you do, you are opening Pandora's box. According to the National Labor Relations Board, employers that allow craft fairs or bake sales on their premises and then refuse to permit equal access to a union representative may be committing an unfair labor practice. And we know there is some national interest in union formation, as depicted in the recent activity at Amazon, Generally, you cannot be compelled to permit non-employee union agents to distribute literature or solicit membership on company property. However, there are important exceptions to this rule.

The Ocean River Institute helps people and groups make a difference where they live through environmental stewardship and science. Many environmental issues are best addressed by people taking action in their own communities and regions, not by large, national entities. However, localized or newly formed groups often need help to achieve their goals. Thats where ORI comes in. ORI maintains a network of Partners, connecting them with resources and services to help them maximize their impact, expand their capacity, and weather unanticipated setbacks. ORI Actions and Events offer opportunities to make a difference for environments and wildlife.

April 20, 2021, Los Angeles, CA - - U.S. District Court Judge Consuelo B. Marshall granted-in-part Black Lives Matter class action plaintiffs' request for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) restricting Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers from using 40mm and 37mm launchers in public demonstrations except by officers who are properly trained and certified to use the less-lethal launchers.

9 Ways Artificial Intelligence Can Increase Your Sales (in 2021!)

Shawn Casemore - Accelerate Sales Growth

Dateline: Toronto, Ontario

Thursday, April 22, 2021

Have you considered how artificial intelligence can increase your sales? From recommendations on leads to follow up with, to prioritizing daily activities, AI can be a game changer when it comes to accelerating sales growth.

Many of my clients aren't clear on what AI is, never mind how it can be used to increase sales. So let's start here.

What Is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think and act like humans.

If a machine of some kind exhibits the kind of characteristics or traits that a human might, such as problem solving, as a result it is considered to have (or contain) AI.

You're already using AI in many of your daily tasks.

Every time you ask Siri or Alexa a question or tell them to do something, you're using artificial intelligence.

Automated financial investing to virtual travel booking agents and social media monitoring are great examples of AI at work.

How Is Artificial Intelligence Used in Sales?

AI is a great tool to support improved prospecting rates and higher close rates, and to drive overall productivity gains in sales.

However, it's not about replacing your sales team with AI. It's about using AI to make better decisions and to automate activities.

By using data, machines can learn and make forecasts and recommendations as to how sales agents or reps spend their time. The result can be a greater focus and higher levels of productivity.

AI truly is a way to move salespeople to work of higher value, rather than letting them act as order takers.

What Are the Benefits of Using Artificial Intelligence in Sales?

Contented Cow Partners, LLC -- Workplace Experts

Come on. Admit it. Back in about May or June of 2020, you started thinking about what it was going to be like to bring people back to the onsite workplace around, oh, say, the end of the summer, after this awful pandemic was behind us. We all did.

And, yet, here we are, and we can't even predict what it'll be like at the end of THIS summer. You've read the same stories I have about complacency-driven risky behavior, pandemic fatigue, virus variants, and vaccine reluctance, all of which carry the potential to drag this thing out longer than we ever imagined.

You've also seen that when both workers and employers are polled about their appetite for returning to working onsite, the numbers are all over the board, and they've changed since we first started asking. Enough want to come back, and enough want to stay home that the solution will be anything but simple.

But for all the uncertainty, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: All indicators point to the adoption of a sustained hybrid workplace model. Starting now. Or at least soon. This is Workplace Next.

So let's get it right.

Dr. Beverly Potter -- Cannabis for Seniors

CANNABIS FOR SENIORS -- Seniors is the fastest growing demographic of pot users in the U.S. Cannabis, a once ill-perceived 'street drug', can be a valued asset to Senior wellness, especially when used in conjunction with other physician-recommended forms of therapy. In many cases using cannabis enables Seniors in reducing dependency on narcotic pain meds to avoid opioid addiction—which is becoming an epidemic. Cannabis is much more than a 'weed' Cannabinoids - chemicals in cannabis - interact synergistically with the endocannabinoid (EC) system in the body to help regulate pain, reduce inflammation, decrease stress, and speed recovery time, as well as elevate mood and optimism - all of which can increase Seniors' quality of life. Pot is becoming the 'pill alternative.'

Administrative Professionals Day Job Search Tips

Kathryn Troutman - Federal Career Coach(r)

Catonsville, MD | April 17, 2021. Wednesday April 21st is National Administrative Professionals Day, a holiday for honoring the contributions of these vital workers. If you are an admin worker yourself, you may want to change employers in order to continue telecommuting at least some of the time or you could be re-entering the workforce after a COVID-19 layoff. One way to celebrate the day is to research new job opportunities. Federal jobs guru Kathryn Troutman suggests you consider the government workplace as Uncle Sam employs so many administrative professionals. And at a time when people are concerned about having quality jobs, the US government stands out for its stability, pay, benefits, flexibility and number of openings.

Troutman recommends exploring this option by doing a search on USAJOBs to see how many administrative opportunities there are in the government. Also, take a look at the Occupational Series 0300 to get a sense of the breadth of this category. A common employee celebrated on this holiday is the Administrative Assistant, so this release looks at the opportunities for that position.

"I started my own career as an assistant at an insurance company processing claims," shares Troutman. "Today I run my own federal resume writing and consulting firm and I am a professional federal jobs trainer. Becoming an administrative worker is a good way to get in and gain experience. Then you can build from there.

" Here's another example of this "foot in the door" strategy. One of the success stories in Troutman's 8th edition of the Jobseeker's Guide was Mariano Troy. Using Troutman's outline format for his federal resume, Mariano landed a position as an Administrative Specialist (government term for Administrative Assistant) with the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). Then he became an Emergency Management Specialist after receiving training to take that promotion.

To do a thorough search on USAJOBs for Administrative Assistant openings, you'll need to know the additional occupational terms the government uses for these positions. They include "Administrative Specialist," "Office Automation Assistant" (known as "OA" as in "I am an OA"), "Clerical" and "Secretary." A recent search found the following number of openings using these terms:
