The 300,000-member National Association of Letter Carriers today endorsed AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka in his bid to become the next president of the labor federation.

NALC President Fredric V. Rolando said the postal union's 28-member Executive Council had voted unanimously by teleconference to support Trumka to succeed retiring President John J. Sweeney at the AFL-CIO Convention in Pittsburgh September 13-17.

"Rich Trumka has the leadership experience, skills, and saavy to take the helm of America's labor movement at this critical time in our history," Rolando said. "We have confidence that he will be a significant force for the unification of all unions in the House of Labor, enabling them to have a major role with the Obama administration in revamping our nation's economic and social structure."

The NALC represents active and retired city delivery letter carriers of the U.S. Postal Service in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions.
