Jackson, MI Branch 232 President Deborah Sue Marriott dies

NALC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jackson, MI Branch 232 President Deborah Sue Marriott on Feb. 13, 2025, at the age of 64.

Sister Marriott devoted her life to her family, community and fellow letter carriers. She proudly served the Jackson, MI, area for more than 30 years as a letter carrier, and her leadership extended beyond her role delivering mail. As president of Branch 232, Marriott was a strong and respected advocate for her fellow letter carriers, providing leadership and unwavering support. Her dedication to her union and the welfare of her colleagues left a lasting impact on the local branch, where her leadership was marked by an extraordinary sense of compassion for others.

One of Marriott’s most memorable legacies is her involvement in the branch’s charitable work. In 2021, after a period of reduced holiday giving, she helped organize and lead a remarkable effort to adopt a family with eight foster children who had just moved to Jackson. The success of this initiative inspired the branch to go even further in 2022, adopting two entire schools for the holidays, bringing gifts to 900 children in need.

Marriott’s leadership and dedication made these extraordinary efforts possible. She coordinated donations, oversaw shopping trips and ensured that every child received a personalized gift. Her actions were not just about giving but about creating lasting memories for children in need. Reflecting on the branch’s efforts in the December 2023 Postal Record, Marriott said, “I look at it this way—every child that we touched at that elementary school is going to remember that. And hopefully, one day they’re in a position to pay it forward and help.”

Marriott is survived by her children, Joseph, Matthew, Erin and Devin, as well as her five grandchildren: McKenna, Logan, Avery, Tony and Lukus. She is also survived by her siblings, Donnie, Steven, Scott, Cathy Ann and Cindy, along with extended family members.

“Sister Marriott’s leadership, dedication to her family, her union and her community left an enduring mark on all who knew her,” said NALC President Brian L. Renfroe. “On behalf of the NALC, I offer our deepest condolences to her family, friends and all who had the privilege of working with her. She will be greatly missed”
