Greek islanders prove concept of fully functioning digital ecosystem

· Athena Top Model competition hosted on Greek island of Agistri

· Models, television crew members and local businesses paid in digital

  currency, Nautiluscoin

·  Local businesses accepted payments using digital ecosystem

·  Brian Kelly Capital (BKCM LLC) made Venture Capital investment in first

ever fully deployable digital currency ecosystem

Business owners and residents of the Greek island Agistri demonstrated on the weekend of 26th September that a digital ecosystem could work. During the Athena Top Model competition, models, crew members and local residents used the digital currency Nautiluscoin created by digital currency pioneer Brian Kelly to carry out transactions. Over the course of the weekend participants paid restaurant, bar and hotel bills, at Hotel Yianna, using their mobile phones and i-pads.

The proof of concept event developed by digital currency consultancy Coinstructors, will hopefully ignite Greece's imagination as to how a digital currency ecosystem can help spur investment particularly in the country's tourist sector.

Lee Gibson-Grant, Founder of Coinstructors said: The pilot proved to us that it is possible to make digital currency transactions via SMS and that infrastructure is key to making digital currency of the future an all-inclusive payment mechanism. We saw that people understood that digital currency was real, in that they could pay for their food and drink with the Nautiluscoin, but given what the people of Greece have gone through in recent months, education and trust are paramount to adopting any new form of payment mechanism. No matter what it is.  This pilot was the first step on bringing digital currency & blockchain technology down to a level where everyone can use it and we managed to learn a lot from it.  We have a long way to go, but this pilot provided great insight in to the real world use of digital currency at this time.

The event showed how digital money and blockchain technology can be effectively used by small businesses on an island that has seen tourist revenues decline since the introduction of the Euro. Provided local infrastructure can cope with telecoms and internet usage, the potential is there for this technology to be expanded.
