Former Erie, PA Branch 284 President William ‘Bill’ McCommons dies
NALC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of William “Bill” McCommons, a dedicated letter carrier and longtime union activist, who died on Aug. 23 at the age of 59.
Brother McCommons began his career with the Postal Service in 1992 and served for 33 years. He was a proud member of Erie, PA Branch 284, where he held several leadership roles, including shop steward and branch president.
As branch president, Bill worked tirelessly to protect the rights and well-being of NALC members in Erie. His leadership, integrity and compassion left a lasting impact on his union brothers and sisters, and his kindness, humor and generous spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; daughters, Bethanie and Emily; stepchildren, Brian, Eric and Tyler; his grandchildren; and his siblings.
“Brother McCommons was a dedicated leader and tireless advocate for his fellow carriers,” NALC President Brian L. Renfroe said. “His commitment to our union and the members of Branch 284 will not be forgotten. On behalf of NALC, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”
