As we embark upon continuing education and thoughts concerning the career field that may be right for us, it becomes clear that future vision is vital for goal setting and growth.

Those willing to reminisce about unusual stories of their past, particularly in childhood, may realize their unique characteristics for future growth. Surprisingly, it is often the traits about which others ridicule us that distinguish us and can be the start for building a distinctive brand.

My Story

A recent question concerning my future is seemingly impossible to answer. However, the steps we take each day will lead to our future. The next question is, how can we improve our path to create our desired future?

An excellent first step is to mentally review how we each arrived at where we are today. It’s necessary to refamiliarize with previous incidents, including the worst and the best:

  • Pitfalls
  • Horrific incidents and how we overcame them
  • Proudest moments

Reflecting on the past typically reveals a personality theme. Note who we are. Know that those who ridicule efforts are the ones who don’t want to see us succeed—denial of who we are meant to be only shatters possibilities. But our better path is facing weaknesses to build strength further (not just the gym, but knowledge and experience count for much). Moreover, facing reality and recognizing how we uniquely work is vital for achieving the new steps we have in mind. 

The better tactic is to admit where and how we need to improve upon a weakness and pursue it with all our energy to turn it into a strength. A concerted effort to overcome all obstacles will provide us with life lessons we never imagined. Moreover, obstacles mean little with the determination to move past them.

As we become stronger and fully express our personality traits, we can almost predict our near-term future. However, with technological advances, such as AI, the long-term future is only predictable because we are willing to learn and grow. 

Even better is to lend a helping hand to those in our networks and serve communities at large. The desire to grow into a leadership role magically happens with a concentrated effort behind the scenes. Although our future may be unpredictable, we can foster the direction we take to achieve our dreams. As Disney exclaimed,

Dreams do come true!’

During the weekend, revisit previous dreams or ambitious ideas that were quickly dismissed. The underlying questions are: did you outgrow the idea? Is it out of date, or – were you talked out of proceeding by another? If so, the time is now to take charge of your life and career. The last thing anyone wants is to regret later in life that stepping up to act was set aside.

Begin reflecting on common personality traits within you and moving toward varying actions. Include what annoys you and what brings joy to answer ‘why?’

Questioning yourself is necessary to bring out the best in you, model it, and then make strides toward achieving your desires. Once you are on track, you can predict the near future while learning how to tackle more distant accomplishments you foresee.
