Attract the Right Job or Clientele:

Do You Imagine Improvement? Most salespeople believe that the only people who count at a company are the executives. In their mind, everyone else resides at a low-status level without decision-making authority. Nothing could be further from the truth. Can you imagine the magnitude of possibility by treating everyone as equals?

My Story About Imagine

‘Imagine’ is one of my all time favorite songs by John Lennon. The word also raises up the idea of what success will look like should we each decide to give the idea a try.

Employed as a sales representative and in my spare time, I would imagine the possibilities of gaining entry into Fortune 100 and 500 companies. Varying ideas would come to mind, and I methodically attempted each one. I quickly learned what worked best.

Watch the SalesChats on YouTube with John Golden, SalesPop! The title is, “Never Give Up – Find A Better Way!." Many field stories are shared pointing listeners to the better path.

My a-ha moment was recognizing that everyone is a decision-maker. When we treat guards, receptionists, and admin with respect, they point us to the right people. Many go as far as to give their vote to the top level executives on our behalf.

Imagining how to achieve your goal is the first step toward getting it done. I sit back, relax, and let my mind wander thinking about the people who might help me gain entry into difficult accounts.

Listening to music in the background will also help the brain to relax. Read ‘Do You Listen to Music to Gain Ideas?’ for additional insights.

The proverb, ‘Sleep On It’ holds much merit, too. Before drifting off to sleep, I think about the company that intrigues me the most, or the problem I wish to solve. Imagining the different possibilities for a solution allows my subconscious to work on an idea as I sleep. In the morning, I recognize the better way to proceed.

Your Story About Imagination

Creativity significantly helps to sell more.

But what if you aren’t creative?

Should you find difficulty with thinking of creative ideas, three other suggestions come to mind:

  1. Research the company website and compare it to those of their competitors.
Seek out similarities as well as differences including clientele. The research itself should prompt new questions and ideas.
  2. Train yourself to think positively.
Focus on every aspect of the company that may benefit from what you are selling. Consider the pros and cons and where interest may reside. Give yourself a pep talk every morning that you can do it!
  3. Take the challenge to continue trying.
Grasping the belief to ‘never give up but find a better way’ will get you to goal.

The last step is to keep yourself motivated no matter what happens next. Sometimes our ideas appear to fail miserably. How you handle the seeming sinkhole determines next steps and your future outcome.

When the worst occurs, it’s usually best to take a timeout for 24 hours. Begin the following day by charting out a new course of action. As time moves forward, you might be glad the worst did occur enabling you to create the better route.

The ending of each story should always be you looking back to realize that you didn’t give up but found a better way!
