Former J. C. Penney CEO, Ron Johnson, once said “I thought people were just tired of coupons. Our core customer was much more dependent on and enjoyed coupons more than I understood.”

He couldn’t have been more wrong.

That line of thinking is almost as foolish as Dallas Mavericks GM, Nico Harrison, saying after trading away megastar Luka Doncic, “I did know that Luka was important to the fanbase, I didn’t quite know to what level.”

When you fumble so badly, you will say any amount of word salad to try and put the toothpaste back in the tube.

The truth is that many inept executives have, and will continue to be, woefully disconnected from their customers.

You can’t make this stuff up.
