(NewsUSA) - The federal government’s release of America’s AI Action Plan marks the most consequential artificial intelligence policy development of the current administration to date, according to experts at the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), a nonprofit and nonpartisan initiative with a goal of making recommendations to strengthen America's long-term competitiveness in AI.

“The AI Action Plan reinforces and accelerates the Administration’s existing strategy of pursuing American AI dominance,” said Ylli Bajraktari, CEO of SCSP, in a recent newsletter.

The AI Action Plan not only builds on previous efforts to accelerate innovation and dismantle regulatory barriers, but also asserts American leadership across AI.

The plan includes three pillars:

-Accelerate AI Innovation. A key feature of the government’s new policy of accelerating AI innovation is the removal of red tape and regulations that can impede it. The AI Action Plan emphasizes deregulation as a way to promote America’s AI dominance and foster innovation. The Plan encourages agencies with AI funding to consider the regulatory environments different states and ensure that federal funds are not trapped in restrictive policies. “The Plan also outlines reforms to Federal Trade Commission investigations that may have imposed undue liability burdens on AI innovators,” according to SCSP.

-Build American AI Infrastructure. The AI Action Plan dedicates an entire pillar to infrastructure development, acknowledging that abundant power is essential to U.S. competitiveness in AI.

and abundant power are foundational to U.S. competitiveness in the AI era. Other recommended policy actions include developing secure, classified computing environments to support the safe deployment of sensitive AI models, and creating new technical standards for high-security AI data centers.

“These initiatives are designed to ensure that government AI workloads, especially in defense and intelligence, are run on infrastructure hardened against insider threats and nation-state actors,” Bajraktari noted.

-Lead in International AI Diplomacy and Security. The AI Action Plan emphasizes that American leadership in AI is a matter of national and international security and calls for the export of full-stack AI solutions to our allies and partners. A recent executive order from the White House supports this pillar by directing various government agencies to streamline the coordination, financing, and deployment of these systems.

“This move directly advances SCSP’s call to make American AI the preferred global platform and to project AI leadership through strategic technology statecraft,” Bajraktari said.
