It is not possible for a real solution of conflict between t-party and democrats under the current way of doing things in congress. When personal transformation reaches full fruition, forgiveness occurs and new agreements are made. When social transformation reaches full fruition, modification of social structure occurs. Social structure modification works, persists and improves in direct proportion to the quality of forgiveness and re-inclusion of people who were previously both friends and enemies. But you cannot skip over anger and hurt and raising hell about it in the process. This is Obama's failure. You have to fight to get to forgiveness rather than fake compromise in order to manipulate the enemy.
Personal transformation involves the process of fully acknowledging and noticing and expressing being pissed off, which is central to forgiveness. Forgiveness is physically, in your body, getting over being pissed off. As a therapist and expert in conflict resolution, the real kind, I have written this elsewhere: "The process of fully acknowledging and noticing and expressing being pissed off is central to forgiveness, which is physically getting over being pissed off by paying complete attention to the entire experience of being pissed off, for as long as it lasts. And it doesn't last, as your mind tells you, forever."
Personal transition from depression, to being angry and hurt ,to forgiveness, but without changing social structures at the end of the process, fails to complete the healing process. I mean it is a failure of healing for the individual as well as society. When we avoid making new agreements and new arrangements for decision making, it allows for the ongoing survival of dysfunctional social institutions that not only maintain a high likelihood of regression to psychological depression, but in our current world, a guarantee of economic depression, and the collapse of civilization. There is joy and temporary recovery in acknowledging hurt and anger, and being in affiliation with people who share your suffering. But there is definite foolishness in leaving in place the conditions that were critical to the genesis of the fury and hurt in the first place. This as as true of whole governments as it is of family dynamics.
