British Air put bright, yellow stickers on our luggage indicating “first class.” And at Heathrow, those stickers were still affixed—as our bags came out dead last!
But I realized that was better than their not arriving at all. So, when threatened with a far worse potential problem than the long wait—lost bags—I was actually happy when they showed up.
I call this phenomenon “perspective happiness.” I used to apply it to my kids a lot. “You don’t like your room, thank God that you have one.” (And my mother actually used to say, “I don’t care if you don’t like what I’ve made for dinner, there are children starving in Europe.”)
By the way, our limo driver here complained about the train strike, a closed highway exit, and the wait for us to show up. Some people have no perspective.
