Susan Eisen, creator of LIFETAG Medical ID jewelry and a type 1 diabetic, believes no one should be denied healthcare due to preexisting conditions. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease that affects many Americans and is usually only treatable with insulin given through injections or insulin pumps. By preventing diabetics from being covered by insurance policies, the cost of their medications could lead to serious financial ruin. People with type 1 diabetes require test strips, injections, insulin, and other medications on a weekly basis and the costs can be prohibitive. "Many of us are afraid to change our insurance policies for fear our diabetes medications will not be covered," said Ms. Eisen.
Aside from being covered by healthcare policies, Ms. Eisen also believes in preventative care. People with diabetes often are more susceptible to kidney and eye problems along with heart and other conditions. She says, "Preventing the side effects of diabetes through wellness and prevention will keep diabetes patients healthy and alive much longer."
Ms. Eisen found the need for creating LIFETAG Medical ID Jewelry when she refused to wear the medical IDs that were available at the time of her diagnosis. Her line of medical ID jewelry includes fashion forward silver, gold, and stainless steel bracelets as well as using ceramic, rubber, and colorful beads to motivate people to wear an ID. Her bracelets and products have been highlighted in Newsweek, Parade, Health, and Diabetic Living magazines (www.lifetag.com, 1-888-LIFETAG).
