March Adness 2018: Sweet Sixteen Round 3
And the winners of our Sweet Sixteen Round 3 are…Adoption from Foster Care and High School Equivalency! Congratulations to these two motivational campaigns and thank you to everyone who has voted in March Adness so far.
Up next, it’s the Sweet Sixteen Round 4 showdown between High Blood Pressure Control & Lung Cancer Screening and Caregiver Assistance & Type 2 Diabetes Prevention. Check out the campaigns below. Voting for the next round begins on 3/22 so be sure you’re signed up to vote!
You can expect to see Adoption from Foster Care and High School Equivalency in the Excellent Eight on 3/29, which of this round’s campaigns will join them?

High Blood Pressure Control vs. Lung Cancer Screening

Nearly half of all American adults have high blood pressure and an alarming number of these people don’t have it under control. Maintaining healthy blood pressure is a vital component of cardiovascular health, as untreated hypertension puts individuals at high risk for stroke and heart attack.
Approximately 9 million people in the U.S. are at high risk for lung cancer and more than 15,000 lives could be saved if only half of them were screened. “Saved By The Scan” aims to raise awareness of the benefits of early detection through lung cancer screening and drive individuals to take a lung cancer screening eligibility quiz at SavedByTheScan.org.

Caregiver Assistance vs. Type 2 Diabetes Prevention

Men represent 16 million of the more than 40 million Americans who are unpaid family caregivers. Although most male caregivers agree that caregiving is stressful, very few reach out for help; they often avoid talking about their situation with others and don’t feel comfortable discussing the emotional challenges of caregiving.
Created by DDB, AARP and the Ad Council, these PSAs feature “”tough guy”” Danny Trejo and use the tagline “Caregiving is tougher than tough,” to direct male caregivers to aarp.org/caregiving for practical tips, tools, and support.
More than one in three American adults have prediabetes and are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, a serious health condition that can lead to heart attack and stroke.
Surprisingly, nearly 90 percent of people with prediabetes don’t even know they have it. But prediabetes can be reversed through weight loss, diet changes and increased physical activity. The first step to reversing the condition is evaluating one’s personal risk so that they can take action as soon as possible.

Last Round’s Winners!

Adoption from Foster Care

There are over 118,000 children in the U.S. foster care system currently waiting for an adoptive family. However, older teens have lower adoption rates and spend 50% more time waiting to be adopted than younger children. No matter our age, we never outgrow the need for a loving and supportive family. Whether prospective parents can successfully wake up a teen or not, parents don’t have to know it all to be a perfect parent to a teenager – they just need to be there. Learn more about the adoption process at AdoptUSKids.org.

High School Equivalency

More than 34 million adults over the age of 18 do not have a high school diploma. Going back to pursue a high school equivalency can seem like a large and solitary endeavor. Working with McKinney and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, the Ad Council has developed PSAs to show adults that they have far more support than they realize and that no one gets a diploma alone.
