Main Street
On some mornings, I take the dogs for coffee at Main Street Coffee. At around 6 am there is usually a group of men sitting around who are shop owners or electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and so forth, getting together before starting work. While I wait for my coffee, I listen to their conversations about politics, society, and what’s important to them.
During that five or ten minutes I hear more common sense than I’ve heard in any political debate this past year, more about what people really need than from any politician bloviating about “What the American people need….”
The main street here, in New England, IS called “Main Street.” And people want a chance to make money to support their families and aspirations, decent education for their kids, safe streets, the snow plowed, the mail delivered, reasonable taxes, support (and less bureaucracy) for small businesses, and otherwise to be left alone.
Why is that so difficult to understand?
