Japan - B-roll Cyndi Lauper marking 1st anniversary of Japan's massive earthquake and tsunami.
JAPANESE FANS PRAISE COURAGEOUS CYNDI LAUPER.
WHAT: One year ago March 11, 2011 CYNDI LAUPER and her band were 10 minutes from landing at Tokyo's Narita airport when the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami struck Japan. After circling the airport, they landed at an army base with a big decision to make. Ms. Lauper and her team decided it would not be courageous to leave. Unlike all other scheduled entertainers, they stayed to give joy and happiness to the Japanese people by completing all their scheduled concert dates throughout the aftershocks and continuing bad news.
Jump forward to March 11, 2012, CYNDI LAUPER and her band return to Japan to commemorate the 1st anniversary of those devastating natural disasters by performing a concert live at Orchard Hall in Tokyo. WOWOW, Japan's premiere subscriber based television network will broadcast the concert live, unscrambled and free to the citizens of the northern prefectures most devastated by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters. In addition, theaters throughout the region will be open free of charge for citizens to come together to view the concert free.
WHO: WOWOW, who celebrated their 20th anniversary in October by launching two additional channels, took the corporate position following the disasters to broadcast entertaining programming to give the beleaguered citizens something to divert their attention from all the depressing news. The second broadcast of the concert footage will be March 25th throughout Japan to all WOWOW's subscribers as a fundraiser. In addition, movie theaters will sell tickets and the profits from this event will go to Japan Red Cross to assist in their continuing rebuild efforts.
B-ROLL is available upon request of CYNDI LAUPER surrounded by adoring fans.
