ATHLETIC MIND INSTITUTE APPLIES ATHLETIC PRINCIPLES TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS

Dr. Todd M. Kays, President of the Athletic Mind Institute and co-author of "Sports Psychology for Dummies" is applying the principles of sport psychology to help students and teachers achieve academic success.

[Columbus, Ohio] -- [Jan. 10, 2011] – Dr. Todd M. Kays, President of the Athletic Mind Institute and co-author of Sports Psychology for Dummies is applying the principles of sport psychology to help students and teachers achieve academic success. Dr. Kays and the administration of Africentric Early College, a Columbus City School, collaborated recently to offer a staff retreat held at SportsOhio. Participants learned about increasing their effectiveness and achieving peak performance in the classroom and beyond, as well as taking part in exercises designed to foster maximum teamwork between staff members, administration, and teachers. Dr. Kays is also in collaboration with South High School, an inner-city school in Columbus, Ohio, to help motivate, empower, and thank the teachers for their hard work in educating students and to encourage teachers to create a strong working relationship with parents in the South High School community.

Dr. Kays has used his expertise in sport psychology and experiences with elite athletes and teams to motivate individuals in education and business to become their best, utilizing athletic venues as the backdrop, with much success. Dr. Kays' programs have lead to measurable increases in student academic achievement, including gains in math and reading scores. Dr. Kays states, "The bulk of the work has been done by the teachers themselves – the credit needs to go to them. Just like offensive and defensive lineman, the staff is in the trenches every day, yet rarely receives the credit they deserve."

Dr. Kays has developed and executed similar programs for other schools and remains excited about the positive changes that continue to take place. Dr. Kays continues to consult with Africentric and South High, aiding their pursuit of all-around excellence.
