Concluding what has been a two-week birthday celebration for my wife, TLM (The Lovely Maria), we arrived in New York yet again for a quick overnight to see Hugh Jackman at Radio City Music Hall, having maneuvered the seating as close to Hugh as I could. The venue is completely refurbished, a time machine into an elegant past, with classic Art Deco style, right down to the huge, elegant restrooms, with large lounges adjoining. (I know that’s an odd observation, but everyone comments on them.)
Six thousand people managed to get themselves seated within five minutes of the curtain. This is the fourth time I’ve seen Jackman, the other times being a concert in Boston and two times on Broadway. He is one of the most multi-talented performers I’ve ever seen. He has an amazing voice, dances well, and most of you have probably seen his movies. He has a jump rope routine that is hard to believe even as you're watching it.
He was on for two solid hours and, unlike the great Billy Joel concerts in Madison Square Garden, I didn’t have to stand for two hours! (You can a photo on my blog on my blog https://alanweiss.com/hugh-jackman-in-the-big-apple/). The only time I took my eyes off of him was when he danced with Kate Hudson, who was mostly failing to wear what was almost a dress.
We walked back to the Chatwal Hotel (seven blocks, close to my record) in 75° weather on crowded New York streets at 10:15, fortunately finding a Nathan’s truck a half block from our hotel. (One of my many addictions.)
Over two weeks we had seen two plays, this concert, had business meetings with clients (and friends) and dined in super restaurants, LeCoucou being world class. Not one Uber was ever late, not one driver anything less than courteous. This is the Big Apple.
I respect people who would rather lead a rural life and avoid the crowds and hassle. But I’ve been coming to Manhattan since I was about five, when my parents could eke out a few bucks for a meal and a movie. And now I’m “known” in many of the best restaurants and the finest hotels. And I’ve learned one thing is unequivocally true.
If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.

The Fishbowl: In January I’ll be starting a year-long, monthly, “live” coaching session whereby one member of the group will be coached by me for 45 minutes on a current issue of theirs, we’ll deconstruct what happened, and then have 45 minutes of Q&A. This is a variation of the very popular “fishbowl” technique I ran a few years ago.
You may volunteer to be the person coached or simply watch. You needn’t attend every session and I will provide video to everyone afterwards along with written commentary. This should build your coaching prowess considerably.
This will be $500 for the year and I’m offering it to you, here, first, because I’ll obviously have limited participation. My offer to you is $400. (An hour of my “situational coaching” on my site is $2,500, so this is a hell of a deal if you choose to be coached or even just observe.)
You can register here: https://alanweiss.com/store/quick-pay/
I’ll cut off registration in December, but if you wait and we’re filled, I can only put you on a waiting list. If for any reason I don’t run it, you’ll receive a full refund prior to the end of this year.
The Proof Behind Social Proof
Has anyone ever asked you, “Give me an example of your point?” and you suddenly forgot how to speak? Or have you said, “Let me give you an example…,” and then have immediately gone into brain freeze without any ice cream? “Social Proof” comprises pragmatic examples that others can readily relate to which reinforce your point instantly.
When you “open the hood” on social proof, beneath is actually a psychological dynamic which creates normative pressure assuring that the actions of others are appropriate and should be imitated. A desire to “fit in” is created.
Join me for 90 minutes and fill your conversations, narrative, and collateral with social proof that will build your brand and fill your bank account. People ask what research I invest in for my success. I don’t. Then they ask what my investigative habits are. I don’t have any. “So what DO you do?” they ask.
I look around.
