Have you been following the newest
movement du jour, “quiet quitting”? Isn’t this just the latest manifestation of people who don’t want to put forth effort and try to excel? Social media are full of people pontificating that a job interview isn’t an “audition” and people shouldn’t have to “perform” to be offered a job.
It seems to me that you can’t teach enthusiasm, energy, vocabulary, or even a sense of humor. If you don’t bring this to a job, you’re simply not an attractive candidate in whom someone would want to invest money.
Most of these people in the “great resignation” or the “gig economy” or “quiet quitting” are going to wind up in their parents’ basements or friends’ couches.
If you want to be rewarded in life, you need to provide value to others. But it seems as if the largest industry in the country today is Self-Absorbed, Inc.
