You know the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. We all succumb to this from time to time. And when it happens, it’s not always easy to snap out of it.

During challenging economic times we don’t have time to be “insane”. We need to do. We need to be productive. We need results.

We don’t need spin.

It helps if you know what happens to you when you get into that stuck point and go into spin. There aren’t always people around to point it out to you, and as a leader you will be more effective if you can self-correct and move forward.

Do you freeze? Procrastinate? Get distracted? Disappear? Surf the internet? Ignore the consequential issues because they seem so overwhelming?

Observe yourself to identify your pattern. Don’t self-judge; the purpose of this is to pull you out of “the insanity” and return to action.

When you see your spin triggers coming on, face them. Often, all you need to do is take one action step to break the spin pattern. Pick a small step and just do it. Don’t think about it, don’t plan it – just do it.

The purpose of acting on a small step is that most times you can perform a small action without reverting to the spin pattern.

When you do this, it breaks the pattern, and that is the key for shifting from a bad behavior into a more successful one.

Let me know how you do with this self-corrective hack. I know that things will vastly improve when you keep yourself from succumbing to the insanity.

Stay safe and have a great week!
