With just two weeks left until Christmas, there are a multitude of holiday performances and concerts to attend, along with many other weekend events, both festive and non-holiday related. Happy weekend!

Dumbarton Concerts Continues with Helicon: Winter Solstice

Enjoy a winter concert featuring old-time and American roots music with the Baltimore-based group Helicon. Band leader Ken Kolodner will be leading the group for the annual show with lots of bluegrass, folk, ballads and more to celebrate the winter season. More information on tickets can be found here.

See ‘Water for Elephants’ at the National Theatre
The bestselling novel Water for Elephants has become an equally successful musical currently at the National Theatre through Sunday. After losing what matters most, a man jumps onto a moving train unsure of what the future will bring. The show is seen through the eyes of his older self and a wonderful reminder that if you choose to take the chance, life can begin no matter how old you are. ‘The Little Prince’ is at The Kennedy Center This Weekend

Rachel Portman’s opera based on “Le petit Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater this weekend only. The production will showcase the Cafritz Young Artists and Youth Chorus. If you are planning on taking the whole family, keep in mind, the show is best enjoyed by children ages 5 and older. Strathmore’s Holiday Content Continues with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones

Béla Fleck & The Flecktones are returning to the Music Center at Strathmore for their “Jingle All the Way” tour featuring jazz-infused takes on seasonal favorites from their Grammy-winning album. The group is performing the music together for the first time in over 15 years. Note: Howard Levy will not be able to perform with the group, but guests Jeff Coffin, Alash and mandolinist Sierra Hull will all be on hand. More information can be found here.

The Cathedral Choral Society’s ‘Joy of Christmas’ is This Weekend

The ever-popular holiday show from Cathedral Choral Society is back Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. Joy of Christmas includes timeless carols set to brilliant brass, organ music and the soaring vocals of the Cathedral Choral Society. The Bria Skonberg Quintet Comes to George Mason

Described at the “shining hope of hot jazz” by The New York Times, Bria Skonberg will be at Hylton Performing Arts Center for a Sunday afternoon show. The Canadian born and New York-based singer, trumpeter and songwriter will be performing holiday favorites with her quintet, all set to festive jazz music. More information can be found here.

The Washington Bach Consort Celebrates the Holidays

This Saturday at 4 p.m., enjoy the Washington Bach Consort’s celebration of their annual tradition: “The Christmas Story,” which features selections from Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio.” The show will be under the direction of artistic director Dana Marsh. Holiday Pops! With Melinda Doolittle Is At The Kennedy Center

Gospel and R&B singer Melinda Doolittle will be singing renditions of holiday classics, pop showstoppers, and more on Friday night at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall will be festively decorated too! More information on tickets can be found here.

Smooch at the National Kiss Under the Mistletoe

Head to Anthem Row on Saturday at 3 p.m. for the National Kiss Under the Mistletoe, which hopes to get D.C. to earn the Guinness World Record title for most couples kissing under the mistletoe. Suspended 30 feet into the air, the National Mistletoe is a 10-foot installation of greenery, blooms, ribbons and even a jingle bell. To participate in the smooch-fest, you must register to participate, which you can do so here.
