The heat promises to break (just a bit!) this weekend, so why not get out and about and enjoy? Here are some events and things to do on this perfect summer weekend. Enjoy!
Tonight: Enjoy a Free Summer Concert Series at the National Museum of the Marine Corps
This evening at 7 p.m., head to the National Museum of the Marine Corps for a free concert featuring the Quantico Marine Band. The band was established over 100 years ago and is one of the oldest professional musical ensembles in the Marine Corps. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets and campus venues like the rifle range and museum store will stay open until 6:45 p.m. More information on the concerts can be found here.
Also Tonight: Do “Moonlight Yoga” at The Stacks

The Stacks development in D.C. is hosting a Moonlight Yoga session this evening from 7-8 p.m. Wind down after a long day at work and take a breather at a green space in the heart of Buzzard Point. All levels are welcome and you can register here.
The Phillips Collection’s Last Living Room Series Welcomes Sylvia Albro

The Living Room, Phillips Collection’s series of intimate conversations that feature artists, authors, collectors and more, will welcome Sylvia Albro Friday from 12-1 p.m. Albro has been with Phillips for nearly 20 years, where she works as the paper conservator for a large variety of artworks. Opening Saturday at The Phillips Collection is the exhibit “Vivian Browne: My Kind of Protest.” Running through September 28, the exhibit examines the four-decade career of Vivian Browne and will feature paintings, prints and works on paper. Browne was an activist and was founder of the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition, member of SOHO20 and a professor at Rutgers University. More information on the exhibit can be found here.

On the REACH lawn at The Kennedy Center, don’t miss the next installment of their summer movie series with the original 1994 The Lion King. The classic that launched a film franchise that continues today (and a Tony Award-winning musical!) still remains the very best in animation. Registration to watch the movie isn’t required but recommended. Don’t forget to check the website the day of the film screening in case of location changes due to weather or heat. Step Afrika! Celebrates 30 Years

Step Afrika! will celebrate three decades at Strathmore Friday and Saturday. The group is celebrating percussive performances from all over the world and choreographed productions cultivated in Johannesburg, South Africa. They will be joined by Sweet Honey in the Rock for an 8 p.m. performance both Friday and Saturday. More information on tickets can be found here.
Close Out Pride Month with Maydan, Medina and Stratus Firm

This Saturday marks the inaugural Pride & Pulse Block Party, a one-day celebration of community, care and joy with Maydan, Medina and Stratus Firm, in partnership with Whitman-Walker. The event will be a street festival with live music, drag performances, food and a welcome cocktail courtesy of Maydan. Proceeds will support Whitman-Walker Health and its mission to provide affirming and inclusive care to the LGBTQ+ community. Grab tickets here.
Tudor Place Celebrates a “Day of Archaeology”

Archaeology in the Community hosts an annual Day of Archaeology Festival, which gathers archaeology and community groups from the D.C. area. This year’s event will be held at Tudor Place and will be Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Don’t miss free activities for all ages and food from Pearl and Da Girls food trucks. Grace Episcopal Church’s 30th Bach Festival is This Weekend

Beginning Sunday at 1:30 p.m., Grace Episcopal Church’s 30th Bach Festival will begin with an opening concert that will feature Regino Madrid on violin, Shaughn Dowd on flute, soprano Soo Young Chrisfield, and other vocalists and musicians. The festival will also offer concerts July 11 and July 13 at Grace Episcopal Church. More information on the event can be found here.
