I’ve been asked by many executives what, if anything, they should buy their team this holiday. This guide will spark some ideas for what might work for your team.
1. A handwritten note - you really don’t have to spend a lot to send a meaningful gift. A thoughtful note personally from you about what you appreciate about them and thanking them for their contribution will be remembered for many years to come.
2. A gift celebrating your heritage - when I led teams I used to give the gift of Cadbury chocolate which is from my home town of Birmingham in England. It allowed me to share a little of my history with my team and I still contest that Cadbury chocolate beats any chocolate in a taste challenge!
3. Passing on a family tradition - one of my favorite gifts from my boss was a mixing bowl and a handwritten recipe of a cake that her grandmother used to make. It was incredibly touching to hear her story of baking cakes with her family and how we could continue the tradition.
4. A personalized experience that matters - when you know your team you can surprise them with a truly meaningful gift. Whether you are aware that they always wanted to try golf, know their favorite restaurant, or that they love skiing you can choose personalized gifts that are specific to them.
5. Support a local business - if you visit your local art markets you will meet entrepreneurs that are creating innovative products right on your doorstep. Maybe you will find a unique gift that is being made right on your doorstep and will provide some additional marketing for the local entrepreneur too.
What has been your most memorable gift you have given or received at work? I’d love to hear the best or worst examples!
I will be in New York December 10-12 speaking at the Women of The Channel Leadership Summit East alongside Bobbi Brown and Rent The Runway’s CEO Jennifer Hyman – Let me know if you want to connect while I am in town!
Dedicated to growing your business,
