The Dog Star: Rain
(The Dog Star is a symbol of power, will, and steadfastness of purpose, and exemplifies the One who has succeeded in bridging the lower and higher consciousness. —Astrological Definition)
It was raining quite hard this morning when the dogs and I ventured out on our early coffee run. They spent some time in the yard and then joined me in the garage. Coco (Puppy), the Cavapoo, is a long-haired dog and she absorbs water like a sponge. She has to be dried with one of my car wash towels. (If she’s not periodically clipped and groomed she tends to resemble a walking azalea bush.) Bentley, a German Shepherd, is a short-haired dog who has two layers of fur and oils which repel water. He merely needs a mighty shake and he’s dry (and everyone around him is drenched). He sheds if he’s not brushed, it doesn’t really matter to him, he always looks the same.
We need to avoid being drenched in the vicissitudes of our existence. There are family issues, business challenges, bad weather, cancellations, ill health, expectations not met. These can’t rule our lives. We also have great triumphs, family gatherings, celebrations, great weather, and success. We need to develop the “second coat” and the oils to repel unpleasantness and setbacks to focus on the positive.
And every once in a while we need to shed our unhappiness, to shake it off.
