The Caring Generation® Talk Radio The Signs of Dementia Checklist

Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this coming Wednesday, October 2, 2019, on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® originally aired from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.

The caregiving topic for this week's program is "The Signs of Dementia Checklist." Special guest Dr. Jonathan Graff-Radford, neurologist, from the Mayo Clinic, talks about the risk factors for dementia.

Early signs of dementia in the checklist are noticing that aging parents or spouses forget conversations. How many caregivers find their workdays interrupted by multiple calls from aging parents who do not remember they placed the previous phone call?

There are many small signs to indicated a loved one has memory loss. Have aging parents forgotten doctor and other appointments? Are there a lengthy list of voicemails on their phone? There may be messages that are months old because aging parents forgot how to check for voicemail.

Driving issues are another concern when memory loss exists. Taking away the car from a parent who has memory loss is traumatic for the caregiver and the aging parent. A vehicle represents independence.

How many of you remember when you got your driver's permit, and you could not wait to learn to drive? Your parents were likely worried about car accidents and skyrocketing insurance premiums. Today the roles are reversed, and you have the same worries about aging parents injuring other drivers.

Memory loss has many considerations before and after the diagnosis. Lifestyle changes may also be beneficial to prevent memory loss.

Each week, Caring Generation® radio features a special guest. On October 2, Dr. Jonathan Graff-Radford joins the radio show for caregivers and aging adults.  Dr. Graff-Radford is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He specializes in mild cognitive impairment, vascular cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia. He is a co-investigator in the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging.

Joining The Caring Generation® radio program is a way everyone to become comfortable talking and laughing about aging, health, caregiving, and everything in between. There are many things to learn about life and being a caregiver.  Pamela's approach to caregiving is authentic and light-hearted. She believes that serious subjects benefit from humor and laughter.

Make plans to join Pamela D. Wilson, caregiving expert and the host of The Caring Generation® radio at 6 p.m. Pacific, 7 p.m. Mountain, 8 p.m. Central, and 9 p.m. Eastern.  Replays of the weekly programs are available in podcast format with transcripts on Pamela's website.  More information about online support and online courses for caregivers is available on Pamela website.  Podcast replays are available on I-Tunes, Spotify, and other distribution networks.
