The Caring Generation® Radio - The Emotional Roller Coaster

Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this Wednesday, August 14, 2019, on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® originally aired from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.

The caregiving topic for this week's program is Caregiving – Surviving the Emotional Roller Coaster." Caregiving involves the unexpected. Making decisions is an aspect of caring for aging parents or a spouse.

Taking care of family members at home requires making many decisions and planning for the future. Support for caregivers is inadequate. The result is caregiver resentment and caregiver anger about having to care for loved ones without caregiver support.

Taking medications is an important area of decision making. Rushed medical appointments result in little time to discuss reasons for the prescription of medications. Little time exists to talk about a medical diagnosis that requires prescription medications.

Medication errors are significant in the elderly population. Not taking medications as prescribed or at the right time of day can cause health problems that translate to hospital emergency room visits for the elderly. Fifty percent of people prescribed medications, do not take the medication as prescribed—or at all.

Failing to follow doctor's orders to take medications as prescribed presents higher costs to the healthcare system. The goal of prescription medications is to manage chronic conditions. When chronic health conditions advance, so does the frequency of hospitalizations, treatments, and medical costs because patients become sicker.

Talking to aging parents about taking medications and other caregiving situations can feel like being on an emotional rollercoaster. Caregivers feel responsibility and ownership for making care decisions, especially when aging parents refuse to make wise choices about their health.

Joining The Caring Generation® radio program is a way for caregivers and aging adults to become comfortable talking about why parents are so stubborn.  Pamela's approach to caregiving is authentic and light-hearted. She believes that the serious subject of caregiving benefits from humor and laughter.

Each week, Caring Generation® radio features a special guest. On August 14th, the guest is Michael A. Hackard, Esq who will be talking about how to identify and avoid financial elder abuse. Michael heads Hackard Law, an estate, trust, and probate law firm in Sacramento, CA. Practicing law for more than 40 years, he is devoted to protecting his clients.

Michael's general philosophy includes a dedication to clients, legal excellence, a serious commitment to professional ethics, the finest ongoing professional training, and unashamedly applying important beliefs, ethics, and values. He is a top-rated "AV" and is a "Super Lawyer" an honor reserved for no more than five percent of attorneys in each state.
