The Caring Generation® Radio Show Tips for Juggling Work & Caregiving

Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this coming Wednesday, January 13 on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® aired initially from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.

The caregiving topic for this week's program is Tips for Juggling Work and Caregiving. Pamela talks about caregiver shaming—when family or friends are quick to criticize the actions of the caregiver. Aspects of social isolation, dealing with chaos, and managing caregiving timebomb—subjects that families find difficult to discuss. Tips for caregivers to handle these situations while juggling work and caregiving are featured.

Special guest Rita Choula, Director of Caregiving for the AARP Public Policy Institute, shares research from the series Valuing the Invaluable: 2019 update. Rita shares the economic value of family caregivers, $470 billion in 2017, and talks about caregiver programs to address the growing need for care for elderly loved ones.

Family caregiver support programs offered at the federal and state levels will continue to be needed as the aging population grows. Caregivers are concerned about the role of caregiving. Many feel unprepared to act as a caregiver. Others feel that the position is thrust upon them with no choice but to be the caregiver for an elderly parent.

The pressures resulting from being a caregiver include emotional, financial, and physical demands. Practical processes and step-by-step instructions provided by Pamela during this program support caregivers who juggle work and caregiving. Family relationships are a significant component of caregiving stress.

Highly efficient caregivers give the impression that caregiving tasks are easy. As a result, other family members fail to offer help and support. Juggling work and caregiving is and will continue to be highly stressful for caregivers caring for elderly parents with health issues and high needs for daily care.

The January 13th edition of The Caring Generation sheds light on the increasing need that family caregivers have for programs, support, and education. Pamela gives listeners practical tools and the confidence to develop skills to care for elderly parents and loved ones. Being a caregiver encompasses many areas of life and is often an unexpected responsibility that affects personal health, well-being, finances, and work.

Workplaces are noticing the effects of caring for elderly parents on employees. Pamela offers workplace programs to support working caregivers based on 20 years of experience managing care for her clients. Pamela's unique experience provides a breadth and wealth of information to help family caregivers navigate the unexpected and unfamiliar path of caregiving.  More information about workplace programs for caregivers is available on her website.
