The Caring Generation® Radio How to Keep Your Heart Healthy

Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this Wednesday, August 21, 2019, on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® originally aired from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.

The caregiving topic for this week's program is "Why Caregiving Takes More Than Love." The health and well-being topic is "How to Keep Your Heart Healthy."  Working caregivers struggle to find a work-life balance between careers, caring for their own families, and caring for aging parents. All caregivers face health and well-being challenges that include heart disease.

Caring for aging parents can feel overwhelming. Caregiving is not a job that one applies for – it's a job that happens in the blink of an eye. Situations and care needs change overnight. Good news and bad news arrive on the same day. Caregivers are faced with new responsibilities and tasks they never imagined they would have to do.

The things caregivers never imagine they will have to do includes changing Depends, helping aging parents bathe, and managing incontinence. Add to this emptying and cleaning catheter bags, taking blood pressures, monitoring blood sugars, and even using lifts. Caregivers—today more than ever—are faced with performing medical-type care for aging parents and loved ones.

Caregiving professionals who work in care communities, medical offices, and hospitals face even greater stress. They help multiple patients and families during the day. After work, they become a family caregiver. Family caregivers take on caregiving responsibilities because they feel a duty to care for loved ones. The health and well-being of caregivers suffer when caregivers fail to take control of caregiving situations.

Joining The Caring Generation® radio program is a way everyone to become comfortable talking and laughing about aging, health, caregiving, and everything in between. There are many things to learn about life and being a caregiver.  Pamela's approach to caregiving is authentic and light-hearted. She believes that the serious subject of caregiving benefits from humor and laughter.

Each week, Caring Generation® radio features a special guest. On August 21, the guest is cardiologist Melissa Walton-Shirley who will be talking about how to keep your heart healthy.  Dr. Walton-Shirley has more than 27 years' experience as a full-time cardiologist in Kentucky and Tennessee with 20 years of Cath Lab experience as a coronary angiographer. Her focus also includes echocardiography, stress echocardiography and nuclear

Dr. Walton-Shirley's first love is prevention both primary and secondary with particular interests in hypertension, congestive heart failure, and coronary artery disease. She has been a writer for Theheart.org/Medscape cardiology a division of WebMD for over 14 years. She has personal experience being a caregiver for her father who has heart disease and needed medical treatment.
