The Caring Generation® Radio Caregiving When Families Don't Get Along
Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this coming Wednesday, November 20, on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® originally aired from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.
The caregiving topic for this week's program is Caregiving: What to Do When Families Don't Get Along? Pamela discusses Chapter 6 of her book, The Caregiving Trap: Solutions for Life's Unexpected Changes, called Family Ties.
Family relationships are imperfect. Many families don't get along, reports Pamela. "Families came to my office for care planning meetings and were embarrassed to share that their family didn't get along. Families not getting along are the norm instead of the exception. Caregivers should never let a dysfunctional family situation prevent them from getting help."
Special guest, attorney Spencer Crona of the Brown and Crona law firm in Denver, Colorado shares When Family Caregiving Conflict and Stress Lead to Court. Spencer is a legal expert with 30 years' experience in probate, estate, and trust litigation, including conservatorships and guardianships.
Discussed on the show with Spencer Crona will be legal issues with family visitation. What to do when a brother or sister prevents siblings and family from visiting an elderly parent? Also, a case of how to respond when a non-family caregiver influences a change in an estate plan eliminating the inheritance of all family members.
Legal situations of family conflict and caregiver issues are becoming more prevalent and worrisome. Elderly parents are quickly taken advantage of by ill-meaning family members and other individuals. The Peter Falk Law passed in 1996 established visitation rights for family members for incapacitated individuals who are subject to guardianship.
Support for the Peter Falk Law was led by Catherine Falk, daughter of Peter Falk, known from the television show Columbo. Catherine was denied visitation of her father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The Catherine Falk Foundation exists today to support passage of the Peter Falk Law throughout the United States. The foundation also supports family caregivers who find themselves being denied visitation of loved ones.
This radio program for caregivers and aging adults will give listeners the confidence to know the steps to take When Families Don't Get Along. Setting boundaries and resetting family relationships are two steps that caregivers can take to gain confidence that imperfect family situations can be managed.
