National Dog Day is tomorrow! Why not celebrate with your best friend at these five great spots for dogs in the area, plus one more coming soon.

Tilley’s Pet Supplies

With an original store in Middleburg, Tilley’s newest location is in Georgetown. The locally owned pet store offers a wide variety of items for both dogs and cats, and their retail section is heaven for pups. They sell lots of pet toys, beds and exotic meats. Georgetowner contributor Bill Starrels’ dog Maxine is a big fan!

Chef Geoff’s Dog Menu

Enjoy the last few days of summer with Chef Geoff’s Dog Days Menu, which is served on the patio. There are options like “Scooby Snacks,” with pumpkin, peanut butter, milk and oats, or two strips of delicious bacon for $4.

Congressional Cemetery

Congressional Cemetery offers a K9 Corps membership between dog owners and the cemetery. About a quarter of the cemetery’s operating income comes from donations from dog walking members, equal to the cost of maintenance contracts for the grounds. With the presence of dog walkers at almost all hours, there has been a sort of volunteer patrol of pups keeping a watchful eye on the cemetery, making sure it is free of any vandals. The cemetery also offers activities throughout the year as a thank you to their K9 Corps, including springtime “Yappy Hours,” photos with Santa during the holiday seasons, and a Blessing of the Animals in October. The events are open to both members and non-members.

Baked & Wired

conBefore you head down to the waterfront for a walk to celebrate National Dog Day, grab a cupcake and coffee for yourself and a package of Zillabonez for your best furry friend. Snag a bench to sit on and take in the sights and sounds of Georgetown. Our first dog Moe was a huge fan of the BBQ Kitty Riblets, made with whole wheat flour, cornmeal, oats, bacon, parmesan cheese, canola oil, eggs and of course, barbecue sauce.

Scheele’s Market

Our editor-in-chief Robert loves stopping by Scheele’s, noting their dog treat jar sitting on a stool outside. Many neighborhood Rovers and Fidos have stopped by on their walks to grab a delicious snack from their human’s favorite place to grab a snack too!

Coming soon…

Milo & Mav

The newest addition to the neighborhood is a space where pet lovers can gather and treat their dogs to a special experience. There will be coffee for humans and dog treats for the pups in a playful inclusive environment.
