A bit of Paris came to Georgetown last week as Sézane opened its first permanent store in Washington, D.C.
The brand had a pop-up in the neighborhood last year and is now back with a permanent location at 1242 Wisconsin Avenue NW, adding another clothing option to one of Georgetown’s busiest shopping streets. The opening is part of Sézane’s expansion in the U.S. and Georgetown has continued to attract a mix of international brands and local businesses.
The opening was celebrated on Wednesday, April 22, when invited guests gathered for a first look inside the store. Attendees were welcomed with seasonal cocktails and light bites while previewing the latest collections. The atmosphere was relaxed and intimate, reflecting the brand’s approach to retail as more than just a place to shop.
“[What a ] fabulous evening celebrating fashion and beautiful designs,” one attendee said. “As a Georgetowner, it is very exciting to have Sézane here.”
The store officially opened to the public on Friday, April 24.
Founded in Paris, Sézane has built a global following with collections centered on everyday wear. The brand is known for wardrobe staples, tailored jackets, soft knits, denim and accessories. The pieces are designed to be worn often and styled effortlessly.
Instead of a traditional retail layout, the new location is designed to feel like a Parisian home. Rooms are arranged thoughtfully with warm textures and organized by color. Neatly organized racks and tables of clothing as well as accessories encourage browsing at a slower, more relaxed pace.
Some visitors came in already familiar with the brand from its online store or last year’s pop-up, while others were seeing it for the first time. Many spent time moving through the space, pausing to look more closely at the pieces or talk to others. People took their time, lingering in different rooms instead of moving quickly through.
For Georgetown, Sézane’s arrival is part of a broader shift in the neighborhood’s retail mix. Long defined by its historic architecture and established brands, the area has recently attracted a new wave of retailers focused on experience-driven shopping. These spaces emphasize atmosphere and discovery, offering visitors a reason to linger.
