The weekend is jam-packed with White House Correspondents Dinner events as well as concerts, including Evermay’s ‘The Listening Room,’ the Smithsonian Craft Show returns and speaking of the Smithsonian, their historic carousel is back and debuts this weekend after three years of restoration.
TONIGHT: Veronica Beard Gives Back
Join Nancy Taylor Bubes, Gail Daubert, Lily Duber, Cailin Monahan and Alexandra Moskowitz for a shopping event this evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event will be at Veronica Beard on Wisconsin Ave. NW and benefit Rose Park. Evermay’s ‘The Listening Room’ Continues with ‘Songs of the Night’

Kick off the weekend enjoying the peaceful sounds of pieces inspired by the night, like Chopin’s “Nocturnes” and the ultimate night music, Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.” Artistic Director Ryo Yanagitani will take guests on a relaxing adventure on Friday at 6 p.m. More information can be found here.

The Cheuse International Writers Center is celebrating 10 years with a weekend of events. A Georgetown-specific one is Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The interdisciplinary event brings together artists, writers and historians including Lisa Fager and Leeya Mehta for an afternoon of guided tours, exploring literature and more. Giddyup! The Historic Smithsonian Carousel Has Been Restored

Tomorrow, the Smithsonian Carousel will make its return to the National Mall. For the past three years, Carousels and Carvings have spent time conserving the ride for its re-opening. Updates include a fresh coat of paint, improved accessibility, and updated electrical wiring. Tickets will be $6 per rider and can be purchased at the ticket booth at the carousel. The Smithsonian Craft Show Is at the National Building Museum

The annual Smithsonian Craft Show is currently in its 44th year at the National Building Museum, running now through Sunday. Over 120 artists will be showing and selling their work, which includes ceramics, jewelry, glass, wearable art and more. Admission to the event is $25 at the door, and sales for groups of 10 or more are $20 each. More information can be found here.
Washington Bach Consort to Present Bach’s ‘Mass in B Minor’ This Weekend

Under the direction of Dana Marsh, music director, Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” will be presented Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m. at National Presbyterian Church. The work is known for its spiritual depth and musical mastery, which is perfect for the consort’s season finale. Those interested are welcome to attend a free, pre-concert lecture at 3 p.m., which will be presented by Michael Marissen, a Bach scholar. More information can be found here.
Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company Celebrates AANHPI Month

Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company will be honoring Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at Woolly Mammoth Theatre for two separate weekends. The first, Program A, runs this weekend. It includes works like “Meditations,” originally choreographed by Burgess for Ballet Memphis, and “Charlie Chan and the Mystery of Love,” a full-company dance that is inspired by Burgess’s coming of age story as an early 1980s young gay Korean American in Sante Fe. Transformer, The Line DC, Will Host a Meet the Artists Reception for ‘Icons & Flow’

This evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Transformer will continue its exhibition partnership with The Line DC, showcasing a new body of work that brings together two connected photographic series called “Icons and Flow.” The meet the artists reception will be in The Line DC’s G Level Lobby. Strathmore Hosts the 10th Annual Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards

Friday evening at the Music Center at Strathmore will be a concert featuring nine finalists for the Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards. The songwriters will be performing original work in front of a panel of judges. The awards were founded by local Cathy Bernard, whose uncle was Fred Ebb, one half of the Broadway songwriting duo Kander and Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, etc.).
