Kentuckians have served on the front lines since the American Revolution, giving the state of Kentucky a strong veteran legacy. Kentucky Representative Walker Thomas writes a heart-felt appreciation to all of the fallen heroes of America, and outlines the legislation that has been passed by the House and Senate to benefit Kentucky military personnel who are active duty or retired.

He believes that the best way to honor the men and women who have sacrificed everything for our country is to ensure that those who make it home are well taken care of. He describes the legislation that has been passed recently by Kentucky to benefit the state’s veterans, and includes the importance of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

In addition, we endorsed the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments by the Veterans Administration (HCR 40). Studies have shown these treatments can repair the brain tissue, which would significantly improve the quality of life for many of the 13,000 Kentucky veterans suffering from brain injuries and disorders.

The Extivita-RTP clinic in Durham North Carolina is part of an state-funded effort to provide Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to NC Veterans. A special grant, pursuant to legislation passed in 2019, is paying for HBOT treatments for NC Veterans. The HBOT for Veterans Program is run from the Community Foundation of NC East, the recipient of the state funds. To date, over 20 Veterans are enrolled in  the treatment. Progress of the patients is being carefully tracked. Results to date prove the safety and efficacy of HBOT treatment for TBI/PTSD.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is used around the world to extend and improve quality of life by augmenting the treatment of all injuries, diseases and infections, as well as to improve overall wellness. HBOT involves breathing 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber to increase oxygen levels in blood plasma. A century of clinical research has shown that increased oxygen in plasma accelerates our natural ability to heal through neurogenesis and angiogenesis.
