High-Risk Workplace Security Expert Says

"It's OK for Employees to Bring Guns to Their Workplace"

Cleveland, Ohio, March 8, 2010...High-risk security expert Timothy Dimoff, CPP, President of SACS Consulting and Investigative Services, Inc. and author of Life Rage says "Its OK for employees who are licensed for concealed weapons to bring guns to their workplace." Dimoff says "You can't have laws, make people undergo background checks and special training to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon (CCW) and then tell them they can't carry their weapons onto their workplace property. Its OK as long as the weapon is left in the vehicle and not brought into the facility".

Dimoff's position comes from nearly 30 years of police, investigative and business security experience working with businesses of all sizes on security policies. "If a person wants to bring a gun to work to shoot someone, it won't matter whether the company has a "no weapons on premises" policy or not...so it's NOT really a deterrent, he states. "When the CCW movement first started everyone was afraid of wild west type shootouts, but over the years we've found that to not be true. Letting employees with CCW permits bring guns to work, as long as they are left in the vehicle, will not result in workplace violence. Workplace shootings result from disgruntled employees or former employees, embittered spouses and for people looking for their "15 minutes of fame and policies mean nothing to these people."

Dimoff says that not heeding warning signs is far more likely to result in a workplace shooting than a permit holder having a concealed weapon locked in a car including:
  • Unusual behavior or manner of dress such as heavy clothing during warm months.
  • Changes in an employee's hygiene or behavior such as suddenly withdrawing or isolating themselves, coming to work late and leaving early, voicing unhappiness, missing work, and not completing assignments.
  • Employees having personal issues or witnessing a co-worker having personal issues. Employees should know who they can talk to if they are concerned about another employee, or if they are having personal issues.
  • Substance abuse issues. Workplace violence is more common in those with substance abuse issues and the incidence of substance abuse tends to climb during an unhealthy economic climate. Employees need to be aware of counseling and therapy opportunities.
Dimoff also says "There may even be an advantage to CCW permit holders having a gun in their vehicle. If an incident happens, lives may be saved with the gun an employee gets from their car."
