The first responsibility of any leader is to keep themselves sufficiently squared away as a capable, competent human being, worthy of the trust of those who might follow them my craft kostenlos herunterladen. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. At present, our brains are bombarded nonstop by a blizzard of disorienting and at times frightening stimuli: A deadly viral pandemic with attendant health, lifestyle, and economic consequences, governmental malfeasance (put mildly), and epic racial tensions fortnite game. As humans, how we digest and choose (yes, choose) to react to these stimuli affects the quality and effectiveness of our daily lives. As leaders, that same principle applies, but with a big multiplier shotcut kostenlos herunterladen.

In the old but still relevant training video, “Brain Power”, actor and TV pitchman, John Houseman, in his distinctive voice intones, “You get what you expect to get free itunes. What are you expecting?” Using a series of simple exercises, he illustrates how our brains can easily be duped by misperceived fact patterns, thus leading us to erroneous conclusions kan google assistant niet. We’re especially vulnerable to that at present.

As a case in point, with about half of our US-based workforce still WFH, kids at home nonstop, et. al., our fact patterns and routines are confused to the point that many of us have to think a second or even third time just to figure out what day of the week it is. It is all too easy to become consumed by fear and negativity, to the point that, with an ‘every day is Groundhog Day’ mindset, we become less competent both as individuals and leaders. And, in the latter case, we inadvertently become “super-spreaders” of darkness and negativity, yielding bad outcomes for everyone.

Our workmates have quite enough confusion, worry, and fear in their lives already. One way we can keep from adding to that is by ensuring that we remain focused not on the darkness, but the light at the end of the tunnel, and that we regularly share that light among those around us.

Anyone who has ever been part of a startup knows that the gnawing worry in the pit of your stomach (the fear of failure) must be offset by an abiding belief that what you’re about is important, it matters, and that success is achievable. By virtue of that belief, we find it in ourselves to do things we might not have thought possible, particularly under the circumstances.

So, in that vein, I would implore you to bear constantly in mind the point made by Mr. Houseman; You Get What You Expect to Get, and see to it that, before interacting with others, your own head is in the right place. No less than our children, our teammates watch us carefully, much more so than they listen to us. So, if you need to take an extra lap around the block, listen to one more cut of your favorite music, or take a few slow, deep breaths before engaging with your team, please do it.

Do it because it’s the right thing to do, and you’ll be happier with yourself, or if you must, do it for selfish reasons. Focused, engaged people have a nasty habit of getting more done.

Keep your chin up.
