The historic property at 1534 28th St. NW has stood for over 100 years as the Robert Dodge House, named for a prominent Georgetown family. Dodge was a merchant and shipper and a consulting engineer for the C&O Canal.

The house has gone through multiple owners, including FDR’s cousin Warren Delano Robbins, who bought the home in 1920. Later, Edith Morton Eustis bought the house in 1936. She was vice president of the U.S. (under Benjamin Harrison) Levi P. Morton’s daughter.

The last 40 years though, most have known the home as that of C. Boyden Gray. Gray, who passed away in 2023, served as White House counsel to President George H.W. Bush. You can read more about Gray here.

Arguably the most recognizable house in Georgetown is now on the market for $13.5 million. Listed by Washington Fine Properties’ Nancy Taylor Bubes, Jamie Peva and Lenore G. Rubino, the 11,000-square-foot home was designed in 1850 by Downing and Vaux. The duo’s designs and influence were huge among the affluent New York City, Washington, D.C., and Palm Beach set.

The layout was purposely sized and updated to allow for state dinners. There is also a formal living room designed by R. Keith Langham. At the same time, there are plenty of cozy nooks and spaces for nestling in at home for a long weekend. The home includes private gardens and a terrace and patio, a wine cellar, a formal living room and a catering kitchen with a subzero KitchenAid and Wolf appliances.

The third floor hosts a two-bedroom apartment designed by architect Outerbridge Horsey. There are five fireplaces and garage parking with a crescent drive as well. The home has been well-maintained through the years, with a new copper roof, hardwood floors, and 12 foot ceilings.

You can see photos of the home below. Photos are from Washington Fine Properties.
