The year was 1961. John Chancellor made his debut as news anchor for the “Today Show,” the first in-flight movie was shown on TWA and Arnold Palmer won the U.S. Open.

Leaders included John F. Kennedy in his first year as U.S. president, John Millard Tawes was governor of Maryland and the newly formed PRSA chapter, known then as the Baltimore chapter, was headed by Vincent G. Bradley, Jr.

In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the chapter’s founding, PRSA Maryland invites communicators to celebrate decades of growing and promoting the profession in an outdoor event in Owings Mills on July 1, the same day the chapter was formed.

“This will be our first in-person gathering in almost two years,” said Dr. David Marshall, Ph.D., APR, Maryland chapter president. “Many have been asking for an opportunity to reconnect in a fun setting and we can think of no better time to start slowing and safely reconvening than to celebrate this major organizational milestone.

Attendees will safely gather outside under a big tent and in the lot surrounding the tent. There will be plenty of space to socially distance, space out at tables, and purchase a drink or a snack. There will be plenty of free parking.

“There is no formal program so come as you are,” Marshall said. “Stay a few minutes or stay the whole time. This is just an opportunity see some colleagues in person and celebrate 60 years of service and professional accomplishments of our industry in Maryland. This chapter has a lot to be proud of. We also know you miss seeing your PRSA Maryland colleagues.”
