Observations on How to Stop the Shootings!

A Security Expert's Opinion on the Recent Police Shootings.

Akron, OH, January 7, 2015…Based on recent events this country is quickly becoming the "Un-united States of America". Timothy A. Dimoff, a high-risk security consultant says "We are drawing lines in the sand over the police. One side is grieving over police officers losing their life in the line of duty and the other side is upset with them and wants to hurt them. I suggest that these two ideas are not mutually exclusive. It is possible to respect police officers and yet still hold them to high standards of conduct. The recent shooting of two police officers who were sitting in their car suggests we have a huge problem in this country!  That said, I do think it's possible to unite everyone."

Dimoff says that as a nation have lost respect for members of our police force.  We are also experiencing what seems to be an increase in lack of tolerance for minority groups across America. He offers these suggestions:

  • Political figures and community leaders from BOTH sides of the issue must stand together to let the public know that violent behavior and more killings is not the solution to these problems. Ignoring or inciting violent behavior only feeds the problem, not solve it! There are ways to affect change through proper channels.

  • We need to better utilize and monitor social media channels to try and predict those who are potentially at high risk for committing violent crimes, causing destruction, etc.

  • We need to teach young people to respect our laws and our police! I am calling on parents, teachers, community leaders, etc. to make a stronger effort to teach our children this and also stress to them that brandishing a gun, even a toy gun, at the police or anyone else is not "cool" and can get them killed!

  • Next, anyone who is aware of specific individuals who exhibit criminal intent to use violence to cause destruction, harm, and killings must step forward and notify law enforcement and community leaders immediately! This is a critical link in preventing violence.

"If we want to achieve a peaceful solution and stop these shootings, it will take a unification of civil rights leaders, politicians, and heads of law enforcement standing together to unite all people. If our leaders show they can work together to solve these issues, then the supporters from both sides will follow", says Dimoff.
