 New GU President Eduardo Peñalver Starts July 1? 

Eduardo M. Peñalver, former president of Seattle University and former dean of Cornell Law School, begins his tenure as Georgetown University’s 49th president on July 1 (his inauguration is expected in October). Peñalver, who visited his future home in April, meeting students and faculty members, told?Georgetown Magazine: “As I prepare to take on this new role, I am spending a lot of time in conversation with members of the Georgetown community and thinking about how we can rise to meet this moment, leading the way with answers that are true to Georgetown’s distinctive history and values.”?The last time?he worked in Washington, Peñalver clerked for Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.?

Holy Trinity to Celebrate Church Building’s 175th 

While Holy Trinity Parish?dates to?late 1787, the main church building at 1315 36th St. NW was constructed in 1851. On Saturday, June 13,?at 4 p.m., Holy Trinity will celebrate the building’s 175th anniversary with a special Anniversary Mass. Following the Mass, there will be a festive procession from the church to the campus of Georgetown Visitation Prep for the annual parish picnic.?

Spain Will Unveil Mural at Grace Church, June 25? 

The Embassy of Spain will unveil a mural on the sidewalk-facing walls of Grace Church, 1041 Wisconsin Ave. NW, on Thursday, June 25. In honor of the 250thanniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the new mural, by Spanish artist Paco Roca, celebrates the shared history of Spain and the United States and highlightsSpain’s contribution to the American Revolutionary War.?The 5 p.m. ceremony will feature Mayor Muriel Bowser and Spanish Ambassador Ángeles Moreno Bau.?? ?

Rowing Mural Is Up at New Hotel Near Potomac 

Meanwhile, another mural?has gone up?—?this one?depicting rowing?—?on the outside of the new?citizenM?hotel at 3401 K St. NW, near the Potomac shoreline.?A previous?mural on that exterior?portrayed President Kennedy delivering his “Ich bin?ein?Berliner” speech.?
