Driver in Fatal Crash Gets 29-Year Rap
Nakita Walker, who crashed her car into another car on Rock Creek Parkway in?2023 and?killed three persons — Lyft driver Mohamed Kamara and passengers Jonathan Cabrera Mendez and Olvin Torres Velasquez — was sentenced on June 15 to 29 years in prison. The horrific crash, just south of the P Street parkway ramp in Georgetown,?closed the parkway for most of the day.

Be on the lookout for more speed humps going up around the neighborhood. Heed those yellow warning signs and slow down — or your suspension just might take a hit. Stop-sign cameras are?being installed too. The latest ones are at the intersection of 33rd and O Streets. The one at 37th Street and Whitehaven Parkway is a legendary annoyance. Be sure to halt your vehicle at the line and not?at?the crosswalk.??
Rain?Doesn’t?Dampen ‘Georgetown: Get Involved!’?
The inaugural “Georgetown: Get Involved!” event, sponsored by the Citizens Association of Georgetown on?June 28, may have been wet, but the spirit of the participating civic groups was infectious. Volunteers were happy to meet attendees and discuss their nonprofits’ missions. (Let’s?do it again next year.)?
