In a tweet earlier today, metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis revealed that the Trustees of the Jim and Monique Brown Family Trust have filed a new trademark application for JIM BROWN, the football legend, NFL Hall of Famer, and activist.  The application was filed on March 16, 2022, and signals plans by the football star to expand his brand into:

• downloadable music files authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs);

• downloadable multimedia file containing artwork relating to sports and entertainment authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs);

• downloadable video recordings featuring sports highlights authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs);

• downloadable image files containing trading cards, artwork, and memes authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs);

• downloadable audio recordings featuring music;

• downloadable ringtones;

• downloadable e-books in the fields of sports and entertainment;

• downloadable graphic art reproductions; and

• downloadable photographs.

"Jim Brown is an icon of sports, entertainment, politics, and pop culture. The value attached to his name and brand is significant, and this filing indicates how he continues to protect and leverage that value in the virtual economy of the Metaverse," Mr. Kondoudis said.

Mr. Kondoudis added that this filing "follows the trend by other sports and entertainment celebrities including Tom Brady and Muhammad Ali to begin preparations to participate in the Metaverse."

"We expect the number of trademark filings for NFT and virtual products and services in all sectors to continue to increase in the next 12 months as brands come to appreciate the need for protection in the Metaverse," Mr. Kondoudis concluded.
