Michigan Periodontist Featured on "In America" Series for Embracing New Technology, Developed for Public Television

Dr. Joseph R. Nemeth has been selected as the Principal Dental Expert for the "In America" series, distributed nationally for Public Television. This is a program hosted by James Earl Jones that highlights professionals and groundbreaking organizations.

Dr. Nemeth, who specializes in treating gum diseases, has not only pioneered new technologies but also is a trailblazer for the most modern, up-to-date treatment protocols in the nation. Dr. Nemeth was the first periodontist in America to use dental lasers to treat gum disease and later became the first periodontist in Michigan to be trained and certified to use the Chao Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique to treat gum recession. He also offers Gummy Smile treatment and lip lowering procedures.

Dr. Nemeth also uses Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), a method of using all-natural platelet gel from the patient's body to stimulate bone and soft-tissue growth for faster healing.

In addition, Dr. Nemeth uses state-of-the-art technology including five lasers and an I-CAT Cone Beam Scanner to provide the best possible care with the least amount of discomfort.

As a result of his embrace of technology to offer the best treatment and highest levels of comfort for patients, Dr. Nemeth has become the "go-to" dentist for the treatment of gum disease and gum recession.

Dr. Joseph Nemeth performs periodontal plastic surgery and cosmetic periodontal procedures to improve the health and appearance of the gums. He is able to treat gum disease, gum recession, gummy smiles, and other periodontal-related issues to provide patients with the best dental health possible and to aesthetically enhance their smiles.

With the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Technique there is typically no cutting, or sutures, much less discomfort, and very little downtime. The procedure is, in many ways, similar to arthroscopic surgery used for knees and other medical procedures. The primary purpose is to save the tooth by halting gum recession and bone loss, and to cover the exposed root surface.

Dr. Nemeth offers two primary and highly effective laser treatments – Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) for patients who still have their natural teeth and Laser Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure (LAPIP) for patients with dental implants with peri-implant disease.

LANAP is a surgical therapy using a laser to fight gum disease. Like the LANAP therapy, LAPIP removes bacteria around implants, stops bone loss and reinforces the stability of implants, and encourages new bone growth to save the implant.

Patients who undergo LANAP and LAPIP therapies can enjoy these benefits: less pain, faster healing, reduced risk of infection, decreased sensitivity, less bleeding, less post-treatment discomfort, and little or no gingival recession.

"We can correct gum recession and/or remove excess gum tissues to enhance smiles," says Dr. Nemeth. "We have less invasive techniques to treat gum disease as part of our overall commitment to our patients' optimal oral health."

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a silent, painless bacterial infection that often is completely undetected or ignored until severe gum and bone destruction take over.

Those who find out they have gum disease often choose to suffer rather than to endure treatment or undergo traditional routine surgery. But the methods and technology used by Dr. Nemeth make it extremely clear that gum disease sufferers should never choose to opt out of treatment.

Dr. Nemeth believes everyone has the right to be at ease at the dentist's office, so he offers

IV sedation dentistry for those who would like help with anxiety or if they have a lengthy procedure.  "With the advances in treatment of gum disease there is absolutely no sound reason to choose not to be treated out of fear," stresses Dr. Nemeth.
