Conversations Book Club welcomes Jackie Carpenter, author of THE BRIDGE, to Mississippi in a series of events scheduled for January 7th and 8th in Jackson, Pearl and Brandon.

The Bridge is a non-fiction story about how a miracle delivered from prison a contractor charged with felony murder. This story of a false charge that crushed a family will be told in dramatic fashion by Jackie Carpenter in person.

Carpenter's remarkable account of son Jason Veitch's arrest and trial, and eventual not-guilty verdict, has been listed in the top Non-Fiction Titles of the Year list for 2010 by Conversations Magazine in its December 2010/January 2011 edition. Once a year, in this edition, Conversations Magazine features its lists of the best in arts, food, fashion, health and books, and amongst those books listed is The Bridge.

Cyrus Webb founder of Conversations Book Club says everyone interested in books, literature or how one's faith in God can be tested, is invited to hear Carpenter's talk and meet her personally.

Veitch, 28, a home builder, was constructing eight new homes and found that he was losing thousands of dollars to copper theft on a regular basis. Upon the advice of a police deputy, Jason stood guard one night at a home under construction. When encountering and subduing three intruders, his shotgun accidently fired hitting one of the men who later died. The local prosecutor then charged Veitch with felony murder.

After her son's arrest Carpenter busied herself researching everything. "I became an attorney, a police officer, a judge, a juror, a forensic expert," says Carpenter. "Then two weeks before trial, I realized that everything I researched was to no avail. There was nothing else that I could do to help Jason. So I turned Jason over to God and a miracle happened."

A native of Georgia, Jackie Carpenter says she knows God inspired her to write The Bridge and followed His leading throughout the writing process. "I am God's Secretary. He dictated and I typed."
