More than 150 friends, elected officials, donors and sponsors came together for this year’s Volta Park Cocktail Party & Fundraiser at the George Town Club on Saturday, June 3. The party was sponsored by Washington Fine Properties’ Liz D’Angio and Nancy Taylor Bubes, SeoulSpice, Georgetown University and Amore Learning — and organized by the Friends of Volta Park.

Attendees sipped on specialty cocktails, including a “Volta Spritz,” “Greener Grass” and “Sunset at the Park,” while tasting a variety of appetizers from chicken skewers and tuna cones — to the staple favorite for more than 25 years of Volta Park cocktail parties: deviled eggs.

The event was made even more beautiful by top floral designer Ashley Greer of Atelier Ashley Flowers who donated all of the floral arrangements and also attended in person to support the park, and Volta Park Board Member Malorie Blake Shin, a National Symphony Orchestra violinist, who donated a performance by two of her symphony colleagues for the duration of the event.

Winners of the luxury raffle were Samar Langhorne, Elizabeth Brock and Amanda Borden, who won the Sports & Adventure, Treat Yourself and Family Fun gift baskets, with each basket containing more than $5,000 in donated prizes, vacations and gift cards.

The highlight of the night was a visit from Mayor Muriel Bowser — and her daughter Miranda — along with Ward 2 Council member Brooke Pinto. Georgetown-Burleith Advisory Neighborhood Commission Chair Elizabeth Miller as well as Commissioners Topher Mathews and Mimsy Lindner also attended alongside longtime supporters, including founder John Richardson and a large group of new supporters.

The group reached its fundraising goal of more than $40,000, all of which will go directly back into the park through landscaping maintenance, activities such as pickleball, and community events.

Volta Park, part of the D.C. Parks & Recreation Department, boasts a swimming pool, playground, rec center, basketball and tennis courts as well as a playing field and is located at 34th Street and Volta Place NW.
