Local Author Releases Gripping Global Thriller About The Search for the Real Shroud of Turin

Denver, CO, March 9, 2020 – The Shroud of Turin is one of the world's most well-known historical artifacts, one which is still studied and hotly debated to this day. Its religious significance knows no bounds as some claim the face imprinted on the Shroud is that of Jesus Christ. But what if the Shroud housed in the Cathedral of Turin wasn't real? What if it's still out there waiting to be found? Katherine Burlake's book, The Last Request, explores this scenario in a global historical thriller about the search for the truth set in a backdrop of mystery, suspense, religion, and a daughter's struggle to fulfill her father's last wishes.

The Last Request is the sequel to Burlake's previous novel, The Bystander, following Amy Prowers as she reels from the untimely and suspicious death of her father in a plane crash. Having to abandon her life and career, she finds herself trying to fulfill his last request to her and is left with words of warning: Be careful who you trust. Her journey takes her from the Balkans to Mexico as she tries to locate the real Shroud of Turin. As a North African leader and former Nazis are also on its trail, it becomes clear this journey will change not only Amy's life, but the fate of Christianity itself.

This book is the second in the Amy Prowers series of thriller books and both books are drawn from Burlake's travels around the world and her experiences working in international relations and the Department of State.

"I wrote the book to show how events that happen with seemingly no impact on a person's life, can change the direction of a life," Burlake has said.

Burlake has done extensive research into World War II history for this novel as well, as Amy Prowers finds out more about her father's past serving in the war and his history with the Shroud, giving history buffs something to sink their teeth into in this thrilling adventure.

Katherine Burlake has travelled to 130 countries and her experience living in Thailand, Germany, and England led her to working for the Department of State. She uses her experiences in international relations to write thrilling and engaging novels. The Last Request (Meroe Press, First Edition 2017, ISBN 978-0998973432, $17.95) is currently available to buy at Barnes & Noble, and Amazon in hardback, trade paperback, and ebook.
