Despite this apparent gusto, settling the Greater Western New York Region came with a healthy dose of uncertainty. The War of 1812 and its immediate aftermath took its toll on the population growth of the western counties. But the best was yet to come. By 1825, Western New Yorkers had much to look forward to.
