TALKERS
LOS ANGELES — Our detailed four-part series of June 2020 ratings summaries commences with an overview of news stations.
Every news station meeting our ratings criteria of a top 20 finish in any PPM-market posted a 6+ February 2020 – March 2020 improvement, with nearly half doing so by at least one full-share.
Naturally, no format could hope to sustain that sort of success: As noted below, half our news stations experience May 2020 – June 2020 erosion (6+).
In terms of year-to-year comparisons, just over four of every five news stations on our panel notched April 2019 – April 2020 increases (82%, 6+). That compares to 69% (6+) in both May 2019 – May 2020 and June 2019 – June 2020.
Entercom owns all but three stations listed in this format analysis.
Non-Entercom operations in this report are iHeartMedia Boston’s WBZ-AM (also listed in Providence); Hubbard Broadcasting Washington, DC’s WTOP-FM; and Sinclair Broadcast Group Seattle’s KOMO.
Ratings stats in this exclusive analysis are limited to stations paying Nielsen Audio for its data.
