Many organizations are losing top leaders (or preparing to lose leaders) who are often baby boomers or those who have had years of experience.

So it’s critical for organizations to identify young leaders who can lead in the future.

But where do you start?

It’s tempting to look for young leaders to “fill the leadership pipeline.”

And to assume they will follow a similar career trajectory.

But the reality is the world of work is changing. Professionals in younger generations are motivated differently.

So organizations need to identify young talent in the context of the new paradigm, and consider what young leaders truly want.

Gayle Lantz shares her ideas about what organizations need to consider when identifying young leadership talent.

She explains that identifying young talent alone isn’t sufficient if organizations are not creating the right environment to help leaders thrive.

If the culture isn’t what it needs to be, leaders won’t stay anyway.

This episode covers:

  • How to think about identifying young leadership talent
  • The importance of creating an ecosystem where leaders thrive
  • Five key leadership skills organizations should look for in young leaders
  • The value of using assessments to identify leadership potential in young leaders
  • Where to find young leaders within and outside your organization, including one strategy to help them emerge on their own

Note: This episode is the first of a two-part series.

Part 1: How to identify young leaders with best potential (Episode #111)

Part 2: How to engage and develop young leaders (Episode #112)
