If you think about the future creatively and imaginatively, you are a visionary. But you also can be a visionary for your own life. You can dream about and envision the future you’d like to live. Indeed, you can create a big vision for yourself and your life.

Let me ask you three powerful questions:

  1. What would you do if you had no obstacles in the way?
  2. Who would you be if nothing held you back?
  3. What would you create if anything was possible?

If you are like most people, it’s highly likely that you allow perceived obstacles and challenges to hold you back. You let old stories and beliefs about who you are and what you can or cannot create or do keep you stuck. As a result, your vision for yourself and your life remains small. And you and your life follow suit.

Your small vision keeps you creating and living a small life.

If you think small, you play small. That means you do small, create small, and show up small. But you can think and play big …if you develop a bigger vision of yourself and your life.

Expand Your Vision

Close your eyes. Take a few moments to imagine yourself unencumbered by anything at all. See yourself living fully as your best self. Expand your vision of who you are and what you can do and create.

What did you see? How did you show up? Who were you being? What were you doing? What were you creating?

ICCIf you can expand your vision in this way, you increase your potential to create that vision. You can be, do, and have this grander version of yourself and your life.

Oh, The Stories You Tell

The stories you tell yourself about who you are and can be and what you can have, hold you back. They are your biggest obstacles and limitations.

Most of us tell stories about ourselves and our lives based on things that happened in the past. More accurately, the stores are based on our interpretations. We continue to rely on those interpretations—not the facts—as we evaluate who we are and what we can do. We believe the stories and allow them to inform our decisions and actions.

However, those stories don’t reflect who you are now. They might be based on who you were at the time when something happened or somebody said something to you. But that is not you now, nor does it have to be.

As you create a big vision for yourself and your life, rewrite your old stories. Even better, write new stories that align with your big future vision. Write a new story that is one of expansion and in which you show up as someone who can create the kind of future you want. See yourself bringing your vision for the future to life.

Change Your Beliefs

Interlaced with your stories are your beliefs. These developed out of repetitive negative thinking. However, the negative thoughts typically stem from past experiences—and your interpretation of them—and things you’ve been told by other people. Of course, beliefs also are created by what you tell yourself.

Most of us have similar beliefs:

  • I’m not worthy.
  • I’m not (good) enough.
  • I don’t know how.
  • I’m a failure.
  • I’ll be judged.
  • I’m not lovable.

Your negative self-talk continually strengthens your belief that these statements are factual. And you see everything that happens through this lens. For that reason, your experiences continue to validate your stories.

And those stories—along with their related beliefs—hold you back. They reduce—and sometimes eliminate—your ability to be a visionary for your life. You can’t even imagine a bigger vision.

Believe It’s Possible

There’s an affirmation used in many personal growth circles: 100% possible 100% of the time. I recently heard it repeated in a class I’m taking, and this time it really struck home.

100% possible 100% of the time.

If that statement is true, it means that whatever you want to be, do, or have is possible all the time.

If you believed that statement, what would change for you? Close your eyes…

How does your vision change? How do your opportunities and possibilities change? What would you do? Who would you be? What would you create?

What type of vision would you create if whatever you imagined or desired was 100% possible 100% of the time?

I bet it would look a lot different from the vision you had a few minutes ago when you began reading this blog post.

Your Vision of Possibility

When you believe that whatever you want to be, do, or have is 100% possible 100% of the time, you eliminate limitation. You leave your limiting stories and beliefs and negative thoughts behind. You open yourself to possibility.

Imagine what is possible. Then commit to that vision. And what yourself and your world transform to align with the vision.
