The last two weeks have caused leaders in the US to have conversations that previously might have been a whisper, or avoided, or mistakenly left to your HR team.
Posting a blank black square on your social channels rapidly became a trend, then equally as fast was vilified. Words don't necessarily equal action.
CEOs and Boards are now debating, considering, making statements, and taking action. Perceived inaction is considered a deliberate act. Silence is being interpreted or misinterpreted.
Instead, you have to rapidly review, reset, and relaunch, just like these companies:
$1M+ raised in 45m on a live Peloton ride organized by Axios' business editor Dan Primack
Sponsors including Reebok, athletes, and gyms quit CrossFit following CEOs comments
Alexis Ohanian resigned from Reddit's board urging the company to replace him with a black candidate
Lowes pledges $25M to help minority businesses reopen following shutdown due to COVID-19
Rent The Runway pledges $1M to support black designers
CEO of LinkedIn, Ryan Roslansky, on day 3 in his new role had to apologize to employees after the anonymous chat panel during the company meeting on inequality contained racist comments
As I mentioned in a conversation with 300 leaders across Singapore, India, and Australia last week, I don't have all the answers. While it is sometimes more comfortable to stay silent in uncertainty, that doesn't change anything, or help others.
You need to ask your executive team what comprehensive rapid review will take place, how do we reset in the short term, while creating an impactful relaunch that will impact your customers, employees, and community in brand new ways.
If you would like my Ten Step Review, Reset, and Relaunch Guide for your leadership team, reply with YES PLEASE and I will send you a copy.
